Cheboygan is located in Cheboygan County in Northern Michigan. There is speculation that the city’s name comes from the Ojibwe word zhaabonigan meaning “a sewing needle” or the word “Chabwegan,” meaning “a place of ore,” but the exact origin is unknown.
